Got Root?

John Gruber has an excellent interview with Dino Dai Zovi of the CanSecWest MacBook Pro Hacking Contest. He also reiterates what I’ve said before: Don’t use an admin account for day to day tasks.

Getting it done

So I’ve heard of GTD and all the great things blah blah blah, but I never put any serious thoughts into it until recently. I just got bit by the GTD bug and I like it. I installed Tracks using Locomotive and I’m instantly feeling better about my life. Well almost. My requirements were quite high, I wanted something simple that I could have instant access to and not be weighed down by adding contacts to projects and any other cruft. Tracks fit the bill perfectly. I did try out iGTD but since I’m only in front of my Mac only a few hours a day, it didn’t really fit in. With Tracks I can subscribe to my tasks with iCal and sync up with my phone. I’m also finding it handy for other lists of things I want to do, like rent movies, life long goals, etc. Which leads me to my rules for pretty much everything:

1. If it is worth doing, do it right the first time.
2. Finish what you started.
3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
4. Failure is not an option.

Magnetic quote

As seen on the side of a server rack written in magnetic poetry:

“Cherish positive teamwork and don’t follow the leader”
