I’ve decided to switch back to a Sony Ericsson phone from my Nokia E62. I have to say that these are the slickest phones that I’ve had the pleasure of using. My first Sony Ericsson was a T637 and that is an awesome phone, I just wish it had a better camera and mp3 ringtones (I have a thing for making my own ringtones).
Enter the W810i - this is the ultimate phone in my opinion. I don’t want email - I thought I did, but when I sit in front of a computer all day long, the last thing I need is 1 more device telling me I have mail. The W810i has an incredible camera for a phone - 2 Mega pixel to be exact and it does video too. I expect to be posting to my new Tumblr blog alot more often. I didn’t realize how much I would miss the camera when I didn’t have one. The Walkman is a nice touch, I used it practically all day yesterday and it hardly put a dent in the battery. The Walkman menus are easy enough for anyone to figure out if they have ever used an iPod and the FM radio is a nice touch though I doubt I will be using that very much at all.
All in all, this is the best phone I’ve ever had, navigating the menu is lightning fast which is a definite plus over the E62 - the menu system on that was horrendous. But the best part of all - Salling Clicker is back in my digital life with a gorgeous Java UI. Bet you didn’t ever think you would see a “gorgeous Java UI” did you? Either did I.
After playing with Proximity a bit, I added some code from Jesse Hollington and changed how often I sync. I’m not anal enough to justify syncing every 15 minutes. (My iCal doesn’t even update that often.)
tell application “iSync”
activate
tell application “System Events” to set visible of process “iSync” to false
if last sync is less than ((current date) - 3600) then
synchronize
delay 60
(*You may have to adjust the length of the delay based the time it takes to sync on your device(s)*)
end if
end tell
tell application “iSync”
quit
end tell
Now if someone could please tell me how to auto-accept a sync connection on my Cingular Nokia E62, I would be forever grateful.
Mr. Hollington has an excellent article on Bluetooth device proximity detection with OS X. I have always wanted my computer to know I’m home (not just my wife) and now it looks really easy! I like his addition to his iSync AppleScript to check when the last sync was and then sync or not depending on how much time has passed since last sync. I will definitely include this in my own iSync Applescript. I will hopefully find some time to expand on his ideas. Perhaps start Wii Transfer as soon as I get home…
Despite being constantly plugged in to email now, I haven’t had much time to catch all my feeds. So here is my brain spilling out: (I’ve been meaning to do this more, but that damn Google Reader shared items makes it too easy to skip.)
Wii Transfer is now up to 2.2.

Google Mobile has all sorts of goodies that work like a charm on the E62. I’m also finding it really cool that you can text Google and get excellent results in seconds. Didn’t know that? Yeah! send a text message to 466453 (Google) with a request like Starbucks 76107 and get addresses and phone numbers texed back to you. Faster and most definitely cheaper than calling 411.
I just got a brand spankin’ new Nokia E62 and I must say this phone is impressive. I haven’t used a Nokia since I had an ugly shoe phone 4 years ago and have been using a Sony Ericsson T637 for about 3 years so this phone was quite a change for me. I promptly setup my Gmail account and then copied all my contacts off my SIM card only to discover that there were duplicate entries for a few contacts. I found that it had made my contacts First Last /M or /H for home or mobile. Not clean at all. I needed to sync this with my Mac and I found an entry @ FreeBSDGirl that explained how to use iSync with your E62 and this worked flawlessly. Update: the Nokia E62 now syncs natively with OS X 10.4.9. I now have iCal and Address book in harmony again and that is nice. Also while browsing her blog, I found that she had PuTTY. This was a bit to get used to, but after playing with settings (and remembering what port I’m runnning SSH on) for a while I got connected to my server. This is going to be extremely handy. I have a few ideas for a few scripts I’d like to have and if they are any good, I’ll share them. So far, this phone is great and as I learn more about it I’ll be sure to share. So far, I’ve installed Google Mobile Maps and PuTTY for Symbian OS [Larger fonts for PuTTY]. Naturally, I’m on the lookout for some other cool applications so comment if you know of any others!
